ʜᴏᴡ ᴛᴏ ᴏᴠᴇʀᴄᴏᴍᴇ ᴇxᴀᴍ ꜱᴇᴀꜱᴏɴ
Everyone knows it’s finals season, and we have much to do. Here are some tricks that are helping me in my first year at college.
Your time is gold
As soon as you get the exam material try to organize the information about a topic, and, from there, you organize the study schedule.
Make sure to let time to rest, you can use the Pomodoro technique, where you work a full study time and rest the time you consider necessary according to the time you spend studying. (For example, I study for 40 minutes straight and the rest can go from 5 minutes to 10, depending on how tired I am). Remember, that in that rest you should move from the place you are studying to do something else, like going for water, eating some snacks… But don’t use your phone, this will make you lose your focus mode and you will lose time trying to focus again.
Also, try to make your study mixed, do some study blocks with a subject, and change to others in the next blocks. (ex: 2 blocks with subject 1 and 2 blocks with subject 2)
Discipline is suffering now but not suffering tomorrow
Usually, the motivation is not enough to make you start working, so, you have to be more disciplined to put doing stuff no matter what.
Remember: discipline is the most pure act of self-love you can do.
Also, you can get some motivation, or even the study mood going to Pinterest and looking for “Study motivation”.
The food is going to be your best ally
It’s well known that good food is the basis for becoming healthier, especially during exam season. I’ll give you a list of the best food you can eat to improve your productivity:
Snacks:
Nuts and seeds → Almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are rich in healthy fats, protein, and omega-3 fatty acids.
Dark chocolate → Contains antioxidants and a small amount of caffeine to improve focus and mood.
Berries → Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins to support brain function.
Greek yogurt → High in protein and contains probiotics to support gut and brain health.
Popcorn → A healthy whole-grain snack that provides energy and keeps you full longer (opt for lightly salted or air-popped).
Main Meals:
Oily fish → Salmon, mackerel, or sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids that support cognitive function.
Whole Grains → Brown rice, oats, and whole-grain bread provide sustained energy and help regulate blood sugar levels.
Leafy Greens → Spinach, kale, and broccoli are packed with brain-friendly nutrients like vitamin K, lutein, and folate.
Eggs → Contain choline, which supports memory and cognitive performance.
Lean Proteins → Chicken, turkey, and tofu are great for keeping energy levels steady.
Fruits and Vegetables
Bananas
Oranges and Citrus fruits
Avocados
Carrots, Celery and Cucumber
Hydration and drinks (try to avoid energetic drinks and coffee)
Water
Green Tea
Herbal Tea
Smoothies
Failing is not the end of the world.
Failing is part of the process if you don’t do it now, you will succeed the next time. The point is not to give up even if you fail.
You are your best weapon, take care of it.
Remember your (physical and mental) health comes first, so make sure to take care of yourself.
I wish all of you succeed!!!

What the relationships between different Hermits and Kid Xelqua are like:
POSITIVE!
Mumbo - Pretty positive all things considered. He manages to entertain him, and generally is a good uncle figure.
Scar - The favourite. Scar gives him unlimited access to snacks and all sorts of unhealthy food (much to Grian’s chagrin). Once gave him so much sugar, Xelqua entered a 5 hour long sugar rush. Grian still hasn’t forgiven him yet because it was an absolute nightmare.
Doc - Surprisingly positive. Despite Doc’s turbulent relationship with Grian, Doc has a soft spot for kids. He’ll drop any kind of tension when Xelqua’s around to not worry him. He’ll still absolutely body Grian, but usually when Xelqua isn’t looking.
Pearl - Due to her leniency, Xelqua likes her. He can get away with anything when she’s around and generally doesn’t impose any harsh rule of punishment on him
Etho - He just thinks Etho is cool (usually because he keeps maple candies in his pockets). An Ethogirl in the making.
NEUTRAL!
Joe Hills - He’s a living Sesame Street styled puppet and Xelqua keeps mistaking him for a normal puppet toy. He once nearly suffocated poor Joe by hugging him a little too tight around his neck.
Xisuma - Barely sees him and for good reason. Xisuma has enough on his plate as admin, he doesn’t need to have to add “babysitting a god” on his plate as well.
Impulse & Skizz - They help Grian out occasionally to watch over Xelqua. Typical fun uncles you can find, but Xelqua doesn’t know much about them or why Skizz gives him the heebie jeebies when he unfurls his Angel wings or when Impulse reveals his full demon form.
Gem - Like Impulse and Skizz, generally friendly with Xelqua, but he’s unsettled by her, but he doesn’t know why. Maybe he senses that Gem isn’t truly a deer satyr and something to do with the rustling in the forests and night and the lingering smell of blood on her.
NEGATIVE…
Cleo - She’s scary to him. Like how you would be scared of the principal when you were a kid in elementary school.
Cub - All the fireworks he uses this season are too loud for him. He has to cover his ears everytime he has to go near the shop.
Joel - Xelqua keeps walking in in Joel in the most embarrassing moments. Like seeing him cry in front of the statue of his wife because she isn’t in the server, falling down an entire flight of stairs, reading Iskall’s creepy Yandere letters, etc. There were several moments where Joel had to cover Xelqua’s mouth because he was about to air all his dirty laundry.
AKDNDJSKAK
of course Scar is the favourite, Xelqua would love his builds, he’d like the animals and Scars silly voices and rambles. He’d also love Scar’s off road wheelchair/ATV, it’s so fast ! He’d absolutely eat all of Scar’s snacks, he’d be talking a mile a minute when Grian shows to pick him up, he just silently glares at Scar.
I love when people draw Doc with Doccy on the server, just a big scary goat and his little goat kid, it’s why he has a soft spot around Xelqua, he’s so tiny. Tho I can only see them interacting if Xelqua accidentally ends up in his base area, got lost maybe. I think Xelqua wouldn’t be scared of Doc despite his looks bc 1) he looks like Scar’s zoo animals (big Goat) and 2) Doc has a kid too, so he’s gotta be safe. Grian is very confused when he sees Doc calling him.
The Joe Hills part almost made me choke AKDNDKSK Joe being a puppet is my favourite design it’s so silly. Xelqua watches a lot of TV, he’d be in awe… so happy to see a real life puppet… Grian has to grab his hands to stop him from choking Joe out.
I think Xelqua would just be intimidated by Cleo at first, he’d warm up to her ! Him being scared of Cub bc of the fireworks is so true tho, Xelqua very much hates the noise and is actively afraid of thunder, he’ll wake Grian up if a storm rolls in at night, and probably hide behind him if a firework went off and no one told him it’d be so loud !
poor Joel 😭😭⁉️⁉️ tho if Joel grabbed Xelqua and covered his mouth like that, Grian is immediately there, he crosses the room so quickly man Watchers don’t play around abt their kids 😭💥 Grian doesn’t even realize he moved or separated them, for a split second his brain didn’t see this as a joke or playing around. Joel gets to see those purple eyes up closeeee and shouts
this was very cute and silly to read ehehehe, also for some reason I think Xelqua would think that Xisuma is Grian’s uncle, no idea how he came to this conclusion.

Law & Order: SVU - First Date + First Kiss (Preferences)
Classification: Fluff
Pairing: Alex Cabot, Casey Novak, Liz Donnelly, Olivia Benson and Rita Calhoun
Warnings: None
Word count: +1000
Alex Cabot
- The blonde quickly pulls herself together, trying to mask the confusion of feelings and the shock of seeing you after so many years without any contact, failing miserably. She feels a little lost, not knowing how to act, slightly out of it. And continues like this for the next few weeks, even showing up almost every day at the bakery until finally getting up the courage to ask you out to dinner. It's a fancy restaurant, at a table away from curious eyes and the atmosphere is pleasant, you talk about your lives so far, between laughs, wine and an occasional physical touch, like hands accidentally crossing, her touch on your back as you get up from the chair, pinky fingers so close as you walk along the sidewalk that one can feel the warmth of the other. Alex insists on taking you home, you stop in front of the apartment door and both smile nervously. "I missed you." She whispers, tucking a stubborn lock of hair behind your ear. "No more than I missed you." You stare at each other for a few seconds and ADA leans in, asking permission with her gaze to continue, then you nod, joining your lips in a gentle and needy kiss, full of emotion, longing.
Casey Novak
- It was no surprise when, in the middle of dinner, Casey's phone rang and she was forced to run after some judge to get warrants, she had barely touched the food, nor had you, both immersed in a fun and spontaneous flirting. The following week she's waiting for you in the lobby of the precinct with a box of your favorite dessert, which was mentioned at dinner, and a mysterious proposal. She takes you for a apparently directionless walk until ending up at a softball practice cage, no one else there, all the equipment waiting. Her words are patient, hands soft around your waist, body warm and slightly sweaty behind yours as her fingers wander up the forearm to put hands together and teach you how to use the bat, it's almost too much, all the sensations and little things the ginger provokes without even realizing it. "Good shot, sugar." She celebrates happily when you hit one target, proud of the result of hard work, and lifts you, twirling in the air, faces coming closer and you kiss as if it were the right thing to do, it's deep and passionate, all the tension built up over weeks expressed in one act.
Liz Donnelly
- Another night spent working late, it's become a kind of routine you've started to get used to. Long nights full of paperwork, words that start to blur together in a few hours and a dozen cups of coffee, sometimes energy drinks. The last folder has been checked and the notes reviewed, when the knock on the door wakes you up, surprised, as the building seemed empty except for the security team. "You know it's 1am, right?" Liz smiles, entering your office, a bottle of whisky and two glasses in hand "I thought you might need these." And offers one of them, a little fuller because she knows it's necessary. Hours pass without either of you noticing, the bottle is half full and you're both on the floor, high heels thrown on the carpet, messy hairstyles and trivial conversations. "So, Cabot and you...?" She asks suggestively. "Oh, no, no, actually... she's my sister." The woman is clearly surprised, you expect some kind of negativity, maybe a little suspicion, but she just smiles and approaches. "Great!" Closing the distance with a half-drunk, slow and sensual kiss.
Olivia Benson
- Board game days become a bi-weekly program between you, the two families start to meet often and a bond quickly forms, not unexpected considering how close your children are, like flesh and blood. The kids have fun in friendly competitions and eat snacks, sometimes preferring to play in the garden or watch random cartoons until they fall asleep. This time it's different, the pair went to a sleepover, you opened a bottle of wine, sipping it between relaxed conversations, a nice meal and close to midnight you're still awake. "Finally some time for the moms." She raises her glass and knocks on yours to toast the break, you both love your children, but they seem to be plugged in 24/7. "And without having to watch Trolls, I've memorized all the songs." You mumble, drinking the rest of the wine and snuggling up on the sofa, the woman unconsciously rests her arm on the headboard, touching your shoulder, both smile and try to pay attention to The Golden Girls. Almost impossible to do when long fingers wander over your bare skin, the genuine laughter and the magnetism that leads you to stare at her, enchanted. Eyes meet, breaths become heavy and you stop fighting the urge to finally kiss Olivia.
Rita Calhoun
- Her presence is very pleasant, bringing some kind of comfort to your tiring work days and boring shifts, there are delightful conversations when the restaurant is almost empty, occasionally she even makes a witty joke. As a result, you've become good friends, despite all the differences, from personality, age to social class. Bonds are created in the small details, maybe in the kind and gentle way she treats you, how she pays attention to the almost insignificant things you've left hanging in the air during a conversation, proof of which is the limited edition of your favorite book she brings to one of the dinners. Inside is a card with an address, a time and telling you to meet her there. So you do, wearing one of your favorite outfits and silently praying to be appropriate, in the end it doesn't matter much, she has prepared a candlelit dinner in the botanical garden, just you two, the nature and the stars. "I really enjoyed our night, it was lovely." You whisper and play nervously with the hands. "And what about me?" Rita teases, stopping walking, and you blush nodding positively. She tries to say something more, but is interrupted by your lips on hers in a clumsy impulse, there's a doubt in the air, answered by her hands on your waist pulling you in to deepen the passionate kiss.

in these trying times

Masterlist & Request Info
Based on this request! ❤️
It’s reckless, and you know it. Din would be furious if he knew what you were keeping from him; you’d be furious with him if he kept something so important about his health from you. Something that, as his partner, you should definitely know.
But it’s for the best. It was hard enough for Din to open himself up to the possibility of having a partner, both romantically and in the field, and he doesn’t need a reason to worry about you, not after he’s finally gotten over his anxieties. You’ve had this for years, and it’s under control; it has been for a long time. There’s no need to worry him unnecessarily. It doesn’t get in the way or change how you work, how well you fight.
Life has been busy. There are always people after Din; people who haven’t got the memo yet that the kid is no longer wanted by the Empire. And, on top of that, you’re working for the New Republic, and there are always jobs that need done.
Meals get skipped. Snacks are the last thing on Din’s mind. Not on yours; you sneak ration bars to missions and munch them down whenever you get chance.
Din catches you eating one when you’re rushing down an alleyway back towards the ship, Imperials on your heels.
He looks at you and almost stops in his tracks, confusion evident in his body language even though you can’t see his face. “Where did you get that?” He asks. “Why are you eating it now?”
You shove the last mouthful in your mouth and grimace at the feeling of your partially-full stomach jostling around as you run. It’s better than the feeling of a low blood sugar, but still, not exactly pleasant. A needs must, you suppose. “I’m hungry,” you say to him, like that should be enough of an excuse.
It’s not. “We don’t have time to have a picnic right now,” Din protests gruffly. The two of you reach the end of the alleyway, and as you stop at the opening to the street, Din turns back, shoots the two Imps on your tail in two quick blasts, sending them to the floor. “We can eat later.”
You’re five klicks from the ship. You won’t make it ’til later. He doesn’t need to know that.
Shoving the wrapper into your pants pocket, you shoot him a confident grin. “It’s not like these Imps are making it difficult,” you say with a shrug of a shoulder, “they’re making it a picnic for us.”
More footsteps approach from behind you. Three stormtroopers are rushing forwards, lifting their blasters.
So, not so much of a picnic.
But it’s fine. Din drops it; maybe because he’s too busy fighting off the enemies dropping down from the surrounding roofs to question why you felt the need for a little snack mid-fight.
-
It happens again when you’re trying to lay low in a market town as you hunt for your target. Din is on a nearby roof, watching you through his rifle scope. You’re trying to sift through the crowd unnoticed, a piece of beige fabric covering your head, helping you blend in with the residents, when you notice your hands start to shake.
It’s been a few hours since you last ate. There wasn’t time on the way here to stop and grab something.
You don’t have to test your blood to know you’re getting low; you need some sugar right kriffing now or this is going to go South pretty fast.
There are some credits in your pocket and a fruit stand across the street. Casually, you head over, reaching for the credits and handing them over as you approach the vendor.
“What are you doing?” Din’s voice in your ear asks, doubly modulated through the comms.
You don’t answer him; you can’t without blowing your cover. Instead you just select some produce—a handful of berries that you know are good for sudden lows, and a bottle of pure juice—and offer the vendor a friendly smile. You open the bottle straight away, take several gulps before starting on the berries, holding them out in the palm of your hand.
“Is this part of your cover?” Din asks. He knows you can’t answer him. “You’re supposed to be blending in.”
Stop asking me fucking questions and maybe I will, you think to yourself as you drink up half the bottle of juice in ten seconds.
“The target’s here for limited time,” Din reminds you, sounding impatient and confused as to your sudden interest in snacking in the midst of a hunt. “We have to move.”
It’s fine, you want to tell him. I’m still headed in the right direction.
You get the target just fine despite your close brush with a low. Din doesn’t ask you about it later.
So, it’s never really got in the way.
Except, now it is.
Dank fucking farrik, now it is.
Despite the fact that you’ve gotten pretty good at sneaking in extra shots or ration bars in the midst of battles, today, you haven’t had chance to stop for even a second.
And now your vision is blurring, your head is spinning, and your legs are starting to give out beneath you.
Right when a bunch of syndicate soldiers are closing in on both of you in the middle of a forest clearing. Right when Din needs you to be on your shit, to be there for him; right when he puts the most trust in you.
The last thing you remember thinking before falling to your knees is that you’ve let him down.
He calls your name from across the clearing, concern and confusion evident in his voice. There’s a mercenary headed straight for you; you can only just see through the black, blurry tunnel around your vision, can barely focus on anything other than the racing of your heart and the cold sweat beading on your forehead. Din is fighting off his own group of enemies and you can’t lift your arms, can’t reach for your blaster. You can barely hear anything, but you vaguely register the shot of a blaster headed your way, the bright shine of a Beskar-covered man diving in front of you, a blaster bolt hitting the metal with a loud clang.
Din’s saying your name once all the bodies have dropped. There’s no more threat from enemies, but he sounds more worried than ever, breathing fast through his modulator as he pulls you into his lap. He’s asking what’s wrong, if you can hear him, if you’re hurt.
You try to pull yourself up, but the weakness is too much.
“Sugar,” you say breathily, feeling like your throat is shaking with your hands. “I need—food. It’s—blood sugar.”
“What?” Din questions, sounding more confused. He presses something on his vambrace, then holds it up to scan your body. Something shines red on your vitals. “I don’t—we don’t have any rations. The ship is a few klicks away, can you walk—?”
You shake your head. “I—I need it faster, if we walk back…”
Din’s concern is only growing as he nods with understanding. He puts his arm under your leg, the other around your back, and lifts you up. “Can you hold on?”
“I’m—” Lifting your arms around his neck, you manage to grasp your hands together over his back, just barely hanging on with trembling fingers. “So weak, Din…”
“It’s alright. I’ve got you. I’m gonna fly us back, just hold on as much as you can.”
You’re too tired and breathless to respond. All you can do is hold on and close your weak eyes as Din’s jetpack activates and the two of you are lifting off the ground and into the sky.
He gets you back to the ship in a minute. The weakness is going to your very core, down to your bones, and it’s been a long fucking time since you’ve had a low this bad. But, then again, it’s been a long time since you’ve gone without food for this long, too.
“Fast sugar,” Din says as he hands you a bar of chocolate and pours a packet of juice into a glass. You reach out for them, but your hands are shaking so much that it’s hard to hold the glass without the juice just spilling everywhere. Here,” Din offers, lifting the glass up to your mouth and helping you take a sip. Once you’ve had a little, he puts it down and gets to work breaking the chocolate into little bite-sized pieces.
“Under my bunk, I’ve got a blood sugar monitor,” you tell him after your fifth piece. “In my medpack.” The symptoms aren’t fading yet, but it’s not usually long until you start to feel the sugar kick in.
Din hesitates, probably confused as to why you have that, but then he nods and heads off into your bunk, leaving you with the chocolate and juice.
You manage to finish the rest of it alone. The shaking is subsiding slowly but surely, the sensation of chocolate in your mouth distracting you for a little while.
He’s back in a few minutes carrying your medpack. It’s got your meds and your monitor; you fish them both out and prick your finger immediately. Sure enough, it’s dangerously low. There’s a timer on the side of it, so you set it for ten minutes, making sure you don’t forget to test it again.
Din just stands there, watching. You tip your head back against the sofa but you can feel his eyes on you, even though his visor; can picture it in your mind, him just standing there with his hands hanging at his sides, studying you as if just staring will help him to understand what’s happening.
He’s entirely silent for ten minutes. He checks your vitals with his vambrace a few more times, but doesn’t say a word.
The timer goes off. When you test your blood again, it’s back to safe levels, and you breathe a sigh of relief. As always after a low, you feel fucking exhausted and washed-out, and definitely need a proper meal as soon as possible. But you don’t feel like you’re about to pass out any second anymore, so there’s that.
The next sigh that you let out is one of nerves. You breathe in deep, bracing yourself to look back at Din and face the inevitable questions.
When your eyes meet his visor, your stomach twists a little in guilt. “I can explain,” you say, not needing to see his face to know that he’s probably raising an expectant eyebrow at you.
“How do you feel?” He asks instead of What the fuck?
You swallow heavily. “Better,” you say. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“For…making you finish the mission alone. For being a useless partner.”
“That’s what you’re sorry about?”
You stare at him, wide-eyed, swallowing yet again in the hopes it will dampen some of the guilt rising up your throat. (It doesn’t). You put the mission in severe jeopardy; you put the both of you in danger. Din trusted you to be his partner, to get the mission done effectively, to not almost die in the middle of it. And you let him down. “Well…yeah,” you answer, like it should be obvious. “I let you down. I was a bad partner.”
“Yes, you were.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll be more careful next time, I’ll be more helpful—”
“You weren’t a bad partner because you almost passed out,” Din interrupts you. He doesn’t sound angry, which you make note of and let calm your nerves. “You were a bad partner because you didn’t tell me about…this,” he gestures to your med kit, your machines and your medicines.
Oh. Right.
Of course he’s upset you kept this from him.
He sighs. Stepping closer, he sits beside you on the couch, leaving just inches between you. “Why didn’t you tell me?” His voice is softer than you’d expected; not a trace of accusation or anger. Just…concern. Disappointment.
You can’t look at him. “I didn’t want you to worry. Or…to think that I couldn’t do my job.”
“I am always going to worry about you, Riduur,” he says.
“Exactly. I didn’t want to give you another reason to worry.”
“Is this why you’ve been stopping mid-mission to eat so often?”
“Yeah,” you laugh nervously. “I’m surprised you didn’t figure it out sooner.”
“I just thought…” he fades off, then shrugs. “I don’t know what I thought. Maybe I should have asked.” He sounds thoughtful. You shake your head in response. Then, he turns to look at you, and asks, “How long have you…been sick?”
“I got diagnosed with diabetes when I was nineteen. I’ve had it a long time now. And I’m usually much better at controlling it than this, but I…we’ve been so busy.”
Din sighs softly and hangs his head. His hands clench into fists on his lap. “I’m sorry.”
Your eyes snap up to look at him. “Why are you sorry?”
“I should have noticed. I shouldn’t have let you neglect your health.”
“You had no idea,” you assure him, putting a hand on the armour over his thigh. “I’m the one who kept this from you. How were you supposed to know?”
“With or without diabetes, I should be taking better care of you.”
“No, that’s not the lesson we’re taking away from this.”
He looks at you again. The black T of his visor is emotionless, but you can imagine the quirk of his eyebrow. “It’s not?”
“No,” you almost laugh, because how is he suddenly making this his fault?
“Then what is?”
“That I should’ve told you. That I put us in danger by not letting you know something that could’ve affected the mission. Something that could’ve…hurt us.”
He stares at you. Unmoving, unreadable.
“Did you make me say the lesson out loud on purpose by pretending you feel guilty?” You ask him.
“No,” he replies, deadpan, “I’d never.”
“You would.”
“I didn’t,” he says, this time with a slight smile in his voice. He reaches out, takes your hand. “I meant it when I said I should have noticed.”
“I was actively hiding it,” you say. “I don’t blame you. It’s my fault.”
“You should have told me,” he agrees, albeit reluctantly. “But now that I know, we can make sure this never happens again.”
“I’ll just be more careful, and always bring a snack, even if I think we’re not going to be out for long.”
He squeezes your hand, still looking at you through the visor. “Will you tell me about it?” He asks earnestly.
“What do you want to know?”
“What you need, what to look out for,” he answers. “How you manage it. I want to make sure you’re safe. That at least one of us can be taking proper care of you.”
Your heart swells with a sudden bloom of warmth. This isn’t how you expected this to go down: you thought he’d be angry with you for not telling him, and even more angry for almost ruining the mission.
But, in hindsight, you should’ve known better. Better than to keep this from him, and better than to expect that kind of reaction.
This is Din. All he’s ever wanted is for you to be safe. Any secret that you’ve told him has always been met with kindness, understanding. Even when you’ve kept it from him for a while.
“What?” Din asks into the silence that you hadn’t even realised you’d created. You’re just staring at him, warmth in your chest and adoration in your eyes.
You shake your head. “Nothing,” you say, finding your voice a little choked with tears in your throat, “just. I love you.”
He softens. Leans in, presses the beskar over his forehead to yours. “I love you too, Cyar’ika.”
You close your eyes. “I’m sorry I kept it from you.”
“I know. It’s alright. But please tell me how we can make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
“I will,” you promise, pushing your nose into his helmet for a second before pulling away, giving him a sheepish smile. “But first, I need a proper meal.”
notes: finally getting to one of yall's requests! i've been so busy but thank you for your patience, and thank you to this anon for this request. as a fellow diabetic, i can relate, and i would want din there for a low if i had to have one, lmao.
hope you enjoyed! reblogs & comments so so appreciated if you can ❤️

Days 11-12 in Australia
Day 10 postscript
The little kitty who followed us home stayed outside the door meowing for a couple of hours, which was absolutely heartbreaking. But it has a collar and a bell, so presumably it also has a home and found its way back.
Day 11: long drive
Yesterday we were relieved that the kitty was not still at our door when we left! We went to the Fremantle Markets for breakfast and to pick up food to eat on the road, though unfortunately I hadn't entirely understood this plan. So, although I ate a fairly abundant breakfast, I then didn't eat lunch at all.
We loaded the luggage into the car and set off around 10:20am for the very long drive to Esperance. During the first half of the drive, we made a couple of stops, mainly to purchase water and to refuel the car. About halfway through, we stopped at Wave Rock, a fascinating rock formation. We also climbed to the top of it to admire the view, and spotted a couple of very fast, rather large-ish lizards (at least by my standards coming from California). There was a reservoir in which I saw an Australasian grebe (cute!). We might have stayed longer and walked a little further to see some other interesting rock formations, but we were being persecuted by flies, so we soon returned to the car.
Wife's sister did all of the driving, which impressed me; we did the final 4 hours to our destination with no breaks. We did see some wildlife out the window, including some very charismatic parrots (Australian ringnecks), a small kangaroo, and an emu! I was especially excited about the emu, which I'd never seen in the wild before.
Our route was inland and, particularly after Wave Rock, it was fairly deserted. There were hardly any settlements and very few other cars, though we did see some livestock. We spent some of the drive listening to Anna Kendrick's book, which was very entertaining.
We were deeply relieved to arrive in Esperance before the restaurants closed; we were already too late for the supermarkets. We ate dinner in an establishment that had 3 sections: "bistro", gastropub, and sports bar. We were able to get a table in the gastropub section, and the food was fairly good. I was actually in a bit of a blood sugar crisis by that point, having only snacked in the car.
We then picked up milk at a convenience store and headed to our accommodations: a small house in a residential neighborhood. We were exhausted!
Day 12: Cape Le Grand National Park
I hadn't slept very well after about 4:45am, partly because there was a bird singing outside. (At first, I actually thought it was someone's phone.) I gave up on sleep around 7:30 or so. I decided to try to find the bird that had kept me awake, so I took my binoculars and went outside. I eventually ascertained that it was a red wattlebird; there were quite a few of them all making a racket, in addition to lots of New Holland honeyeaters. I also saw a silvereye and a laughing dove. I don't think any of those birds were new for me, but it was still nice.
We ate breakfast, did a little laundry, and then got organised and drove to a deli. I had a sandwich made to order to bring with us to the park and also got a delicious muffin to eat right away; the staff were super friendly in a very genuine way, which was nice. Very small-town. We then drove to Cape Le Grand National Park! [Wife's sister had phoned the car rental company to ask about this and they said the national park was actually okay, despite what their policy said. ! Why hadn't they made that clear in the written terms and conditions!?]
The park was really beautiful. A lot of heathland and interesting rock formations, juxtaposed with the most spectacular beaches I've ever been on.
We first drove to Lucky Bay, where kangaroos sometimes hang out. Unfortunately, we did not get to see any kangaroos because the beach was comparatively busy and it's one of the ones where 4-wheel drive vehicles are allowed to drive onto the beach. (Naturally, the kangaroos want nothing to do with that!) It was so bizarre--the platonic ideal of a beach, with perfect white sand and turquoise water, and yet these stupid vehicles are allowed there. The 4x4s reduce the probability of seeing kangaroos on the beach, which is obviously a major attraction of the park. Still, I can't complain too much: we had a nice walk on the beach and spotted a nankeen kestrel!
After that, we put our hiking shoes on and hiked to the next beach: Thistle Cove. It was a really nice hike with absolutely gorgeous views (and a few more lizards), fairly short and moderate in difficulty, but by the end I was starving. This beach was just as beautiful as Lucky Bay, and more so because there were no vehicles allowed on the sand. There were also only a few people on the beach. We ate our lunch there, then hiked back.
Next I did a little bit of driving. It was really stressful even though there were hardly any other cars on the road: not only did I have to drive on the opposite side of the road from where I usually drive, but the rental car is enormous compared to any other car I've ever driven. Still, if we should have a day when Sister-in-law doesn't feel up to driving, it's good to know that I could perhaps do it.
I drove us to Hellfire Bay, which was a slightly busier beach but without vehicles on it. This time I took off my sandals and got my feet sandy and wet. The sand was very fine (it squeaked!), and the water wasn't as cold as I'd feared it might be. Very lovely! We all agreed that we'd like to come back again tomorrow. We were only there a few minutes, because we wanted to go grocery shopping before the stores closed.
On our way out of the park, we saw a small kangaroo by the roadside and a soaring bird of prey I didn't see well enough to identify.
We bought a bunch of fruit and a few other necessities before coming home briefly; then we went out for fish & chips for dinner. For dessert, we got a pavlova, which was delicious.
I hope I can sleep better tonight!

Sweet moments
Pairing; Matt Casey & Kelly Severide x GF! Reader
Summary; a sweet insight into the household of your two favourite boys and their best girl 🫶🏻
Warnings; diabetic! Reader, just pure fluff and laughs
The sun streamed through the kitchen window, casting a warm glow over the cozy space as you busily prepared dinner. The aroma of sautéed vegetables filled the air, and you were humming along to a song playing softly in the background. Matt and Kelly were lounging in the living room, engaged in their usual banter, but you felt their eyes occasionally darting toward you with affectionate smiles.
“Need any help, babe?” Matt called, a teasing grin on his face.
“I’m good! Just trying to make something healthy,” you replied, glancing back at them. Your diabetes meant you had to be careful about what you ate, but you loved creating meals that everyone could enjoy.
Kelly stretched and leaned against the doorframe, a playful smirk on his face. “You know, I could whip up a mean dessert if you let me take over.”
You raised an eyebrow, suppressing a laugh. “And what exactly would that be, Severide? A bowl of sugar?”
“Hey now, I can do better than that!” he shot back, but the playful glint in his eye told you he was just teasing.
As dinner finished up, you plated the food and served it at the table. “Alright, dig in!” you said, taking a seat between the two of them. They both reached for their forks, but Kelly’s attention turned to you.
“Just a quick check before we start,” he said, pulling out your blood glucose monitor. You shot him a grateful look. It was sweet how they both made sure you were always on top of your health.
“Thanks, Kelly,” you said softly, taking the device from him and testing your levels. The numbers were good, and you breathed a sigh of relief. “Perfect. I can enjoy this meal without worry.”
Matt smiled, clearly relieved. “See? You’re doing great. Now let’s eat!”
As you settled into dinner, laughter and stories filled the room. You felt a sense of normalcy that was comforting. You couldn’t help but notice how effortlessly they made you feel safe and supported.
After dinner, you cleared the table while Matt and Kelly took care of the dishes. “You guys don’t have to do that,” you insisted.
“Nonsense! You cooked, we clean,” Matt said, grinning as he rinsed a plate.
As they worked, you leaned against the counter, watching them. There was something incredibly sweet about the two of them—partners in every sense. “You guys are the best,” you said, warmth flooding your chest.
Kelly turned, a playful smile on his lips. “You’re stuck with us, you know. We’re a package deal.”
Once the dishes were done, Kelly glanced at the clock. “So, about that dessert…”
“Fine! You can make something, but it better be low-carb,” you said with mock seriousness.
He raised his hands in surrender. “I promise. I’ve got a recipe for a diabetic-friendly chocolate mousse that’s to die for!”
You couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. As he gathered the ingredients, Matt sidled up next to you. “You know, you really have changed both of us for the better,” he said quietly.
“Really? How so?” you asked, surprised.
“Before you, we were just two firefighters living day to day. Now we actually care about meal prep and have healthy snacks around,” Matt replied with a chuckle. “And we’ve got someone to keep us in check.”
You laughed, feeling your heart swell. “Well, I’m glad to be that someone.”
As Kelly mixed the ingredients, you took a seat at the counter, watching him with fondness. “You look like a mad scientist in there,” you teased.
“Only for you,” he shot back, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
After a few minutes of whisking and blending, he proudly presented the mousse in three small bowls. “Voilà! Diabetic-friendly chocolate mousse,” he declared, beaming.
You took a bite and closed your eyes in delight. “This is amazing! You nailed it, Kelly!”
Matt took a taste next and nodded in agreement. “You might have a future in the kitchen, Severide.”
The three of you settled onto the couch, dessert in hand. As you all talked and laughed, you felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude. With Matt and Kelly, you knew you were loved and supported, no matter the challenges you faced.
“Here’s to more evenings like this,” you said, raising your bowl in a toast.
“To us,” they echoed, and you felt the warmth of their friendship envelop you. In that moment, you knew that together, you could take on anything.

Understanding Why You Binged on Low-Calorie "Safe" Foods
Binge eating is a common experience that can leave you feeling puzzled and frustrated, especially when it involves seemingly harmless low-calorie "safe" foods. These foods are often considered healthy or diet-friendly, but they can still become the subject of a binge-eating episode. To understand why this happens, it's important to look deeper into the physical, emotional, and behavioral factors that might contribute to such behavior. Here, we'll explore several potential reasons behind binge eating on low-calorie "safe" foods and provide strategies to manage and prevent future occurrences.
Hunger and Nutrient Deficiency
When your body is deprived of essential nutrients or you haven't eaten adequately throughout the day, it can lead to intense hunger. Low-calorie foods, being low in nutrients, might not satisfy this hunger, causing you to eat more in an attempt to feel full. This is especially true if your diet lacks protein, fiber, and healthy fats, which are critical for satiety.
Emotional Eating
Emotional eating involves consuming food as a way to deal with emotions rather than physical hunger. Stress, anxiety, loneliness, and boredom are common triggers. Low-calorie "safe" foods might serve as an option that seems less harmful, but the act of binging can be a way to distract yourself from uncomfortable feelings or fill an emotional void.
Diet Restrictions
Strict diets or food restrictions can lead to a cycle of deprivation and overindulgence. When you finally allow yourself to eat something you've been avoiding, you might overeat it as a response to the period of restriction. This can be particularly common if you’ve labeled these low-calorie foods as "safe," leading to overconsumption when you feel the urge to snack.
Palatability and Habit
Many low-calorie "safe" foods are designed to be easy to consume, but their light, often crunchy texture can make them easy to eat in large quantities without realizing it. Additionally, if you’re used to snacking on them out of habit, it can be easy to binge simply because they are readily available and perceived as low-risk.
Blood Sugar Levels
Simple carbohydrates found in many low-calorie "safe" foods can cause rapid spikes in blood sugar followed by quick drops. This fluctuation can trigger cravings for more carbs as your body seeks to stabilize blood sugar levels. Over time, this can create a cycle of craving and consuming more of these foods.
Strategies for Managing Binge Eating
1. Balanced Diet: Ensure your meals are well-balanced with adequate protein, healthy fats, and fiber to keep you full longer and reduce cravings.
2. Mindful Eating: Practice mindful eating by paying full attention to the act of eating and recognizing hunger and fullness cues. Avoid distractions like TV or phones while eating.
3. Emotional Awareness: Identify emotional triggers for eating and develop alternative coping strategies, such as journaling, meditation, or talking to a friend.
4. Regular Meals: Maintain regular eating patterns to prevent extreme hunger. Skipping meals can often lead to overeating later.
5. Healthy Alternatives: Keep healthier snacks available that provide more nutrients and are more satisfying, such as nuts, yogurt, or fruits.
6. Professional Support: If binging is frequent or distressing, consider seeking help from a nutritionist, therapist, or counselor specializing in eating behaviors.
Addressing the underlying reasons for binging can lead to more sustainable eating habits and improve overall well-being.

Hello, Rosie!
What are some of your favorite ways to cook an ex? I'm not very skilled in the kitchen, but I'm eager to learn and I see no reason to let any... resources... go to waste.
Hello darling!!
A great place to start is with a nice meatloaf, I have a great recipe, very beginner friendly and absolutely delicious! Note that this makes 2 pounds per recipe, however there’s always freezing for later- and if you want make some jerky to snack on I also have quite the recipe!
INGREDIENTS
2lbs of Ex (ground preferably, avoid intestines and ‘soft’ meat, aim for thigh, rump, or arm! I have a butchering chart I’ll link)
1 cup of Crumbs (I prefer cornbread however any breadcrumbs work! all a matter of taste)
2 eggs (eggs make your mixture hold together, they’re called a binding agent!, beat both eggs together like you’re making a scramble)
1 small onion OR 1/2 a regular onion (diced, i can link a video on how to Dice an onion! Onion should be WHITE or YELLOW!!)
2 cloves garlic (Smash them darling! then chop a ridiculous amount! I recommend an insta chop they’re so nifty….)
Salt, Oregano, Pepper, to taste
For the SAUCE
3/4 Ketchup (or more! this goes on top while baking so if you want more have more! just adjust your other ingredients accordingly)
1/4 BBQ
1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce (optional! the bbq will give the tang you need!)
2 TBSP brown sugar (a touch of sweetness!)
A little bit of blood just for fun <3
STEPS
Preheat oven to 375, get a baking sheet, if you want, line with PARCHMENT paper
Start by mixing your first list of ingredients together in a big bowl, (Meat, Onion, garlic, Crumbs, seasoning) Mash, like dough. Careful not to over mix because over mixing will cause the eggs to become dense!
Put a little of the Ketchup Sauce in (about half) and do one final smush, and now you’re ready to roll onto your baking sheet!
You can make multiple small Meatloafs or one big meatloaf, shape to your desired density etc (if said ex is male i recommend making the famed dick cake, quite satisfying to Cut into)
Spread the remaining ketchup Mixture on top and Bake for about an hour!
And then you’ve got a delicious meal- turns out he WAS good for something…..
I hope that Ex doesn’t trouble you anymore Darling…
Ta!

Prompt: hiking date with Killer (As much fun as explicitly diabetic related situations are, it's nice to do some things where the main focus isn't diabetes. I do have another diabetes focused drabble planned, but for now, fluff! Mostly.) Set in the same version of things as this
TW: violent intrusive thoughts
(Like this? Want more? Send a prompt!)
Cgm, check. Pump set to activity mode (one of the author's favorite damn settings about the Omnipod), check. A boatload of granola bars and other low blood sugar snacks to shove in your inventory, check. Plenty of water? Got it.
"I think I'm ready," you said.
Killer had suddenly texted you that he's taking you on a hike, before immediately backtracking and asking if it was too much with your diabetes. You tried to resist the urge to smack him as you reminded him you swim regularly in the summer and did martial arts several times a week for years. You know how to balance diabetes and exercise.
So here you were now and hour later about to go on a date with Killer. Was it a date? He hadn't called it one. It could just be a friendly, platonic outing. You shouldn't make things weird.
But you were ready to go, either way. You walked out of your room to find Killer on the couch with your cat. Cats are tiny hunters and Killer is, well... Yeah. So it didn't really surprise you that he got along great with your cat. Said cat was currently purring in his lap.
"I'm ready to go."
"I'm trapped, go on without meeeee."
You stared at him. "I don't even know where we're supposed to be hiking."
"Oh yeah. But the caaaaat."
You snorted and scooped up your cat. He meowed in complaint but let you move him off the murder skeleton. "Lets get going, shall we?"
He nodded eagerly. "You ever been to Mount Ebbott?"
"No, I don't think I have."
"Its not too horrible a hike, and the view is great from the entrance to the Underground."
"Okay, let me get my car keys."
"Why bother? You've got someone with you who can teleport."
"I keep forgetting that."
Killer snorted and extended his hand. "Hang on tight."
Shortcuts were sometimes more disorienting than portals. Portals you at least were passing through something to get from point A to point B, shortcuts you were one place and then you blinked and were somewhere else. So to suddenly be in the woods at the base of Mt Ebbott took a moment for your mind to catch up with.
Killer started dragging you up the path as soon as you collected yourself. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Birds were singing, flowers were blooming, and it was just the two of you on the mountain.
"Is it usually this peaceful?" You asked. "I don't think anyone is up here."
"Depends on the AU, and the time of year," Killer said. "But yeah, no one but us here right now." He paused. It seemed like thoughts were running through his mind. "I could do anything to you, and no one would know."
"Killer."
"I wouldn't, I promise!"
"Killer."
You sighed. "What's going through your head?"
"... That no one would hear you scream. That I could chase you through the woods and kill you, watch my knives make you into a pincushion and no one would find out until it was too late. But I won't do that, promise!"
You put a hand on his shoulder. "Do we need to go back? It sounds like your mind is getting to you."
"No! Ill be fine, I want to show you the view from the top!"
"Alright, I trust you."
So you filled the silence to give him a distraction. Talking about your hobbies and cats, asking what he and the gang had been up to. It seemed to work, at least to distract him if it didn't fix things. You almost didn't notice the entrance to the Underground until you were about to fall in, Killer having to grab you by the collar of your jacket.
"Don't fall in. You're not a Frisk." he snorted. You stuck your tongue out before turning.
The view took your breath away. You could see all of Ebott City from here and the surrounding valley. You could imagine how incredible it must feel to see this for the first time after centuries kept underground.
"This is..."
"Incredible, yeah. I saw it a few times before my human really lost it."
You squeezed his hand gently. "I hope Chara doesn't reset here, I'd hate for everyone to lose this." Especially your friends
"Eh, who knows." He shrugged. "Don't have a high opinion of most of those brats. Or humans in general."
"What about me?"
"You're... Different. Special."

🌟 The Healthy Choice: Plain Yogurt and Greek Yogurt Over Flavored Yogurt Introduction 🌟
Yogurt is a versatile and nutritious dairy product that has gained immense popularity among health-conscious individuals. While the yogurt aisle at your local grocery store may offer a rainbow of flavors, it's essential to understand why plain yogurt and Greek yogurt stand out as the healthier choices. In this blog post, we'll delve into the reasons why opting for plain yogurt can be a smart move for your health.
Minimal Added Sugar: One of the most compelling reasons to choose plain yogurt is the absence of excessive added sugars. Many flavored yogurts on the market contain high levels of added sugars, which can contribute to weight gain, increase the risk of chronic diseases, and disrupt blood sugar levels. In contrast, plain yogurt allows you to control the sweetness by adding natural sweeteners like honey or fresh fruits, keeping your sugar intake in check.
Probiotic Power: Yogurt's reputation as a gut-friendly food is well-deserved, primarily due to its probiotic content. Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that promote a healthy gut microbiome. Plain yogurt, whether regular or Greek, tends to contain a broader spectrum and higher concentration of these probiotics compared to flavored counterparts. These friendly bacteria aid digestion, support the immune system, and may even impact overall well-being.
Versatile and Customizable: Plain yogurt provides a blank canvas for culinary creativity. You can tailor its taste to suit your preferences by adding a variety of ingredients, such as fresh berries, nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of pure maple syrup. This versatility ensures that you can enjoy a different yogurt experience every time you consume it.
Lower Calories and Fat: If you're watching your calorie and fat intake, plain yogurt is the way to go. It typically contains fewer calories and less saturated fat than flavored alternatives. You can relish the creamy texture of Greek yogurt while maintaining better control over your dietary choices.
Healthier Ingredients: Plain yogurt is a purer form of yogurt, containing just two primary ingredients: milk and live active cultures. In contrast, flavored yogurts often include artificial flavorings, colors, and preservatives. By opting for plain yogurt, you're choosing a simpler and cleaner ingredient list.
Weight Management: Due to its high protein content, yogurt, especially Greek yogurt, can be an excellent ally in your weight management journey. Protein keeps you feeling full and satisfied, reducing the likelihood of overindulging between meals.
When it comes to yogurt, the choice between plain yogurt and flavored yogurt is clear. Plain yogurt, whether it's traditional or Greek, offers superior health benefits by providing you with control over added sugars, a broader spectrum of probiotics, versatility in taste, and cleaner ingredient lists. By making this simple swap, you're not only taking a step toward better health but also opening up a world of delicious, customizable yogurt creations. So, the next time you reach for that yogurt container, remember that plain is not boring—it's a smart and healthy choice!
🌟 Dressing up your Greek yogurt or plain yogurt can turn a simple snack or breakfast into a delicious and satisfying treat. 🌟
Here are some healthy and tasty toppings and mix-ins to consider:
Fresh Fruits: Add sweetness and natural flavor with fresh fruits like berries, sliced bananas, diced mangoes, or chunks of pineapple. The combination of creamy yogurt and fruity goodness is delightful.
Nuts and Seeds: Boost the texture and nutrition by sprinkling a handful of chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pistachios) and seeds (e.g., chia seeds, flaxseeds, or pumpkin seeds) over your yogurt. They provide healthy fats, protein, and a satisfying crunch.
Honey or Maple Syrup: A drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup adds a touch of sweetness without resorting to processed sugars. It pairs wonderfully with Greek yogurt's tanginess.
Granola: Crispy granola clusters are a classic yogurt topping. Choose a low-sugar or homemade granola to maintain a healthy balance.
Nut Butter: Swirl in a spoonful of almond butter, peanut butter, or cashew butter for added creaminess and nutty richness. It's a fantastic combination with sliced bananas.
Dried Fruits: Chop up dried fruits like apricots, raisins, or cranberries to infuse your yogurt with a chewy sweetness.
Cinnamon or Nutmeg: A sprinkle of ground cinnamon or nutmeg can add warm, comforting flavors to your yogurt.
Vanilla Extract: A drop or two of pure vanilla extract can enhance the overall taste of your yogurt, making it feel like dessert.
Coconut Flakes: Toasted or untoasted coconut flakes provide a tropical twist and delightful texture.
Dark Chocolate Chips: If you're in the mood for a touch of indulgence, add some dark chocolate chips for a hint of sweetness and chocolatey richness.
Spices: Experiment with spices like cardamom, ginger, or cloves for unique flavor profiles.
Savory Options: Don't forget that yogurt can go savory too. Try adding chopped cucumber, fresh herbs, a pinch of salt, and a drizzle of olive oil for a refreshing, savory yogurt bowl.
Fruit Compote: Top your yogurt with a homemade or store-bought fruit compote or jam for a burst of flavor.
Mix and match these toppings to create a variety of yogurt bowls that suit your taste preferences and dietary needs. Whether you prefer a sweet, savory, or balanced flavor profile, dressing up your yogurt can make it an exciting and nutritious part of your daily diet.
